Superfoods – Alfafa Sprouts – Immunity Boosters!

I know many of us are not huge fans of vegetables, and a number are particularly averse to sprouts. However, there are a few reasons to start including Alfalfa sprouts into your diet:

1) Alfalfa sprouts greatly boost the immunity system.

2) It is the only plant that contains the full range of vitamins and is an excellent source of chlorophyll, anti-oxidants and vitamin C.

3) Aids in the healing of intestinal ulcers (a painful affair!)

4) Helps in preventing inflammation among arthritis patients.

If this is not enough to convince you, think about it this way: instead of having to struggle with a field-load of different veggies for the sake of a balanced diet, you can start with Alfafa sprouts which by themselves provide so many nutrients. In that case; it would be the fewer, the merrier, wouldn’t it? ;)

Before being blown away by the wonderful benefits of alfafa, it is important to be mindful of the handling of these sprouts. The recent implication of sprouts in e.coli poisoning incidents across Europe and Germany was not the first such occurrence. In 2009 the FDA alerted the public to the possibility that sprouts were behind the outbreak of salmonella in several states.

So what to do?
Well, don’t buy ready sprouted alfalfa for one thing. Buy organic seeds and sprout your own. It’s a great project for the kids, teaches them about nutrition and maybe even encourages them to eat something green.
